The Montana Western Bulldogs men’s and women’s rodeo teams hosted the Big Sky Region – University of Montana Western rodeo in Dillon, Mont. on Saturday, Oct. 1 and Sunday, Oct. 2. By Lowell Peterson The Montana Western Bulldogs men’s and women’s rodeo teams hosted the Big Sky Region – University of Montana Western rodeo in Dillon, Mont. on Saturday, Oct. 1 and Sunday, Oct. 2. The Montana Western men’s team finished in second place at the rodeo with 585 points, just 20 points ahead of the third-place team, the University of Montana. Miles Community College won the top spot with 730 points. The Bulldogs’ Chicky Wines won the men’s all-around title with 280 points and teammate Tucker Zingg finished second with 255 points. Parker Bignell finished ninth in the all-around standings. Montana Western teammates Kelsey Hanson and Kylene Reynolds also claimed the top two spots in the women’s all-around with 185 and 170 points, respectively. The Bulldogs’ Devin Norcutt finished sixth in saddle bronc riding. AJ St. Goddard corralled the top spot in bareback riding and teammate Zingg finished fourth. Wines captured third place in the tie down roping event and Colt Gardner finished fifth. Kody Lahaye and Matt Irish tied for second in the steer wrestling contest and Bignell tied for eighth. Wines (header) and partner Zingg (heeler) won the team roping event and Hanson (header) and partner Kane Cartwright (heeler) took second. Reynolds (header) and partner Kelli Saltness (heeler) captured sixth place and Parker Bignell (header) and partner Kolby Bignell (heeler) finished in seventh place. For the Montana Western women, Reynolds tied for second place in barrel racing. The Bulldogs had three women finish in the top five in breakaway roping: Haily Hamlin (second), Hanson (third), and Chelsey Lund (fifth). Justinn Marshall finished fifth in goat tying. This was the final rodeo in the fall portion of the schedule and the Montana Western men’s team sits in second place in the seven-team Big Sky Region (BSR) standings. The Bulldog women are in fourth place. Zingg is in third place in the men’s all-around standings and teammate Bridger Chambers is fourth. In the BSR standings for saddle bronc riding, Tanner Denton is ninth, Devin Norcutt 12th, Johnathan Ensign 13th and Douglas Hall 15th. St. Goddard is fourth and Zingg is fifth in bareback riding while Chase Redfield is eighth. Drew Baker is in 11th place in bull riding. Four Montana Western teammates are in the top 15 in tie down roping; Lahaye (third), Colt Gardner (seventh) and Wines (tied for 10th). Colton Sargent is in 14th place. Chambers is in fourth place in steer wrestling and Irish, Lahaye and Reef Mills hold the seventh, eighth and ninth spots, respectively. In team roping, the team of Wines/Zingg sits in first place and the Chambers/Briggs duo is third. The Hanson/Cartwright team is sixth, giving Montana Western three of the top six spots. In the BSR women’s standings, Reynolds is fourth in barrel racing, Prescott is 10th and Sharon 11th. In breakaway roping, Woosley is third, Hamlin and Sharon are tied for sixth and Hanson is in eighth place. Bulldog Megan Crist is second in goat tying and Nordahl is fourth. Marshall (seventh), Samantha Naveran (14th) and Saltness (15th) are also in the top 15.
