Bulldog Equestrian team competes in Billings

The University of Montana Western Bulldogs Equestrian team competed in three western shows in Billings, Mont. at the Rocky Mountain College IHSA horse show on Feb. 18 and 19. The event also featured the Western Regional competition to determine which riders would represent Zone 8 Region 3 in Florida at the semi-finals. By Lowell Peterson  The University of Montana Western Equestrian Bulldogs team competed in three western shows in Billings, Mont. at the Rocky Mountain College IHSA horse show on Feb. 18 and 19. The event also featured the Western Regional competition to determine which riders would represent Zone 8 Region 3 in Florida at the semi-finals. Other teams competing at the event were; Carroll College, College of Southern Idaho, Montana State University, University of Montana, Rocky Mountain College and Utah State University. Saturday Morning Western Show Kathleen Anderson placed sixth in the beginning western horsemanship section one class. Jillian Archibald won the second place ribbon in intermediate western horsemanship II section two and Chelan Taylor also came out with the second place ribbon in section three. In novice western horsemanship section one Amber Stine took fifth and Caitlin Halliwell finished in sixth place. In section two of novice Aissa Wise placed fourth and George Lawson earned the fifth place ribbon. Carissa Callison placed third and Linda Sieverkropp placed fourth in advanced western horsemanship. Jenny Winfield took second in open western horsemanship and sixth in reining. Overall the Montana Western team won reserve high point honors and Winfield took reserve individual high point honors. Saturday Afternoon Western Show Winfield won the fifth place ribbon in reining and finished third in open western horsemanship. Lawson took first in novice western horsemanship section two. In the intermediate western horsemanship II section three class Taylor placed second and Archibald placed fifth in section two. Anderson ended the day with a first place ribbon in beginning western horsemanship. The Montana Western team again took home the reserve high point ribbon. Sunday Morning Western Show Anderson took fourth in beginning western horsemanship and Archibald finished fifth in intermediate western horsemanship II section two. In intermediate western horsemanship II section three Taylor again placed second. Halliwell took home the first place ribbon in novice western horsemanship section one and Wise followed with a first place in section two. Jordan Fuller also took first in advanced western horsemanship and Sieverkropp placed fifth. Bryne Kilgore placed third in open western horsemanship and Winfield placed fourth in reining. Regional Western Show Six Montana Western Equestrian riders qualified to compete in the regional semi-finals in Florida and four placed first or second. Lawson was the regional champion in intermediate western horsemanship. Callison was the regional champion in novice western horsemanship and Fuller was the reserve champion in the novice class. Kilgore was awarded reserve champion status in advanced western horsemanship. Stine placed fifth in the intermediate western horsemanship class and Winfield place third in open western horsemanship.
