The University of Montana Western equestrian team competed in two English shows on Saturday, March 10 and the English regional show on Sunday, March 11 at the Utah State University IHSA Horse Show. The winning riders in the regional show will represent Zone 8 Region 3 in competitions at Stanford University in April. By Lowell Peterson
The University of Montana Western equestrian team competed in two English shows on Saturday, March 10 and the English regional show on Sunday, March 11 at the Utah State University IHSA Horse Show. The winning riders in the regional show will represent Zone 8 Region 3 in competitions at Stanford University in April.
The Bulldogs competed against teams from Montana State University, the University of Montana, Carroll College, the University of Utah, Rocky Mountain College and the College of Southern Idaho.
The results for the University of Montana Western riders are listed below.
Saturday morning English show
Kathleen Anderson took sixth place in walk trot and Jordan Fuller placed fourth in advanced walk trot canter section 1. Allison Pugh placed first in advanced walk trot canter section 2 and George Lawson placed fourth. Chelan Taylor took first in novice flat section 2 and Carissa Callison placed third in intermediate flat section 1. Bryne Kilgore placed first in intermediate flat section 2 and Keiley Smith placed fourth. In open flat, Amanda Gelderman took fourth place. Taylor placed second in novice fences section 1 and Kilgore placed fifth in novice fences section 2. Caitlin Halliwell won first place in intermediate fences and Gelderman placed second in open fences. Montana Western won high point team honors.
Saturday afternoon English show
Gelderman finished third in open fences. Halliwell won intermediate fences and Linda Sieverkropp placed sixth. In novice fences section 2, Lawson placed third and Kilgore placed fifth. Sieverkropp placed third in open flat and Gelderman finished fourth. Kilgore earned third place in intermediate flat section 2 and Smith placed sixth. Halliwell was first in section 1 intermediate flat and Callison placed fifth. Taylor finished fifth in novice flat section 2 and Anderson placed fourth in walk trot. Halliwell was high point rider.
Sunday English regional show
The UMW English equestrian team won the regional competition and seven riders earned the right to compete in the zone competitions at Stanford University in April. The Montana Western riders who qualified for the English zone competitions are:
Kathleen Anderson for walk trot;
Allison Pugh for walk trot canter;
George Lawson for novice flat;
Bryne Kilgore for intermediate flat;
Amanda Gelderman for open flat and open fences;
Chelan Taylor for novice fences;
Linda Sieverkropp for intermediate fences.
High point winners in zone competitions qualify for the national horse show in Durham, N.C.
