The University of Montana Western women’s junior varsity basketball team hosted the Salish Kootenai Bison from Pablo, Mont. this past Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 11 and Dec. 12.
On Monday, Dec. 11, the Bulldogs beat the Bison 70-56. Freshman Annie Couch, and sophomore McCall Hasquet tied for leading scorer with 16 points apiece. Hasquet ended the night with a double-double, pulling in 13 rebounds, three steals and three assists. Freshman Melody McCloud added 10 points, four assists and seven boards to the Bulldogs totals while sophomore Breyenne Mosey snagged 12 rebounds and added nine points.
The Bulldogs forced 22 turnovers and out rebounded the Bison 56-34. The young junior varsity team added another impressive stat with 20 of the 56 rebounds coming from the offensive side of the court.
On Tuesday, Dec. 12, Montana Western grinded out the win 76-64 despite a slow start and even though the Bison shot a better field goal percentage than the Bulldogs. The Bison shot 43 percent from the field while the Bulldogs only shot 38 percent. Rebounding won the game for Montana Western as they out-rebounded the Bison 49-41 with 18 of the 49 as offensive rebounds. The Bulldogs also forced the Bison into 19 turnovers.
McCloud came up with another big game with 22 points, 12 rebounds two steals. Hasquet chipped in 15 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Mosey also had 10 rebounds on the night.
The junior varsity team will play their last two games of the season this upcoming weekend on Dec. 15 and Dec. 16 as they again take on the Salish Kootenai Bison in Pablo, Mont.
