UMW equestrians competes in national semifinals

On March 23 and 24, the individual qualifying members of the University of Montana Western equestrian team traveled to Morehead State University in Morehead, Ky. to compete in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Semifinals.

The UMW equestrian team members were Meghan Ortner, Kathleen Anderson, Caiti Masters, Jordan Fuller and Caitlyn Halliwell.

In classes with a large number of riders, Jordan Fuller placed eighth in the advanced division and Meghan Ortner placed second in the walk trot division.

On April 6 and 7, the Montana Western English team traveled to the Colorado Horse Park to compete in the Zone 8 Championships hosted by the University of Colorado. Meghan Ortner, Jessica Kaseberg, Delanie Greer, Chelan Taylor, George Lawson, Laura Cleveland and Michael Larsen represented the team. Alison Pugh, Jordan Fuller, Linda Sieverkropp, Caitlyn Halliwell, Lawson and Larsen competed as individuals. The results for the team competition are as follows: Ortner placed second in walk trot, Kaseberg placed third in walk-trot-canter, Greer placed fifth in novice flat, Taylor placed fourth in intermediate flat, Larsen placed third in open flat, Lawson placed forth in novice fences, Cleveland placed fifth in intermediate fences and Larsen placed second in open fences.

Overall, the team took fourth out of a total of 28 teams in Zone 8.

The results for the individuals are as follows: Pugh placed second in walk-trot-canter, Fuller placed sixth in walk-trot-canter, Lawson place second in novice flat, Halliwell placed sixth in intermediate flat, Sieverkropp placed forth in intermediate fences and Larsen placed fourth in open fences. Both Pugh and Lawson qualified for the IHSA Nationals by placing second in their individual classes.

Ortner, Pugh and Lawson will all be traveling to Harrisburg, Penn. on May 2 through 5 to compete in the IHSA National Championships in their respective disciplines and divisions.
