Montana Western women basketball on road again

The University of Montana Western women’s basketball team will hit the road to play two Frontier Conference games this week. Since the last game the Bulldogs played at their home gym, they have been on the road for 21 days.

On Thursday UMW takes on Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Mont. Rocky is currently 7-10 overall and have dropped all eight of their conference games. The Lady Bears have lost seven games in a row and the last five games by double digits. The Bears are led by Brittany Klum in points (12.94) per game, assists (3.12), and steals (1.29). Mya Perrow-Donovan is leading the team in rebounds.

Dickinson State is currently 13-10 and 3-5 in conference play. They are part of a three team tie in the middle of the pack in the Frontier Conference standings. The Blue Hawks have lost five of their last six games. They are led by TaRicka Linzy in three statistical categories. They include points (14.48), assists (4.57), and steals (1.61) a game. She currently sits with a No. 8 national ranking in total assists and No. 18 in assists per game. She is also No. 15 in three-point shots made with 47 on the year. Jess Bygate is another DSU team leader averaging almost seven boards a game.

UMW is currently 9-9 overall after splitting their games this past weekend. They dropped a heart breaker when they could not hold onto an 11 point lead in the second half and lost by three to Carroll. The Bulldogs are led by Sammi Bignell’s 15.28 points per game, 6.83 rebounds, and 1.94 steals a game. Kelsey Callaghan is leading the team in assists with her 2.81 per game average. Roxy Thurman is coming off a big weekend when she had 16 points versus Carroll followed by nine points and nine rebounds against Great Falls. Jenna Banks has scored in double digits in six of the last eight games. Kaci Matthies is coming off a double-double versus Great Falls when she had 13 points and 13 rebounds.

On Thursday, Montana Western tips off versus Rocky Mountain at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, the game versus Dickinson State is scheduled for 2 p.m.
