University of Montana Western head football coach B.J. Robertson has announced the signing of Stevensville, Mont., senior Chris Bergman, Whitefish, Mont., senior Calub Thilmony, and Pocatello, Idaho senior Angel Chavez to Frontier Conference/NAIA letters of intent.

Chris played numerous positions during his career for the Yellow Jackets. In addition to receiver he played strong safety, returned punts, and was the kick returner as well. Bergman played football all four years and was voted a team captain his senior year by his peers. He was a member of the 2012-13 state champion basketball team and a four year basketball player for the Jackets.

“Chris was recommended to us by his coach and a former Western Bulldog Hank Praast. We loved that he played offense, defense, and was a returner,” said Coach Robertson. “He also played basketball and was a team captain. We are excited to add Chris' athleticism and versatility to our team.”

Chris plans on studying Health and Human Performance while attending Montana Western. He is the son of Chris and Jennifer Bergman.

Calub-Thilmony-UMWUMW signee Calub ThilmonyThilmony is a 6’ 0” 210 pound running back/linebacker from Whitefish High School. From his linebacker position Calub tallied 45 unassisted tackles, 12 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, one interception, and totaled 75 tackles on the season. Following his senior season he was honored as a first team all-conference linebacker and second team all-conference fullback. Calub was a first team all-state selection at linebacker following the 2013 season as well. His junior year he was selected as a second team all-conference linebacker and honorable mention fullback. As a sophomore he was selected as an honorable mention all-conference linebacker.

“We were fortunate to get to meet and work with Calub this summer at our team camp,” commented Coach Robertson.  “What stood out to us was his love of the game and his physical play.  Those two qualities will serve him very well as a member of the Bulldog Football Family.”

Calub plans on studying environmental science while attending Montana Western. He is the son of Nancy Thilmony.

Angel-Chavez-UMWCornerback Angel ChavezChavez is a 5’ 11” 180 pound cornerback from Highland High School in Pocatello, Idaho. During his senior season he totaled 37 tackles and had two interceptions from his cornerback position. He was selected as a first team all-conference performer following both his junior and senior seasons for the Rams. Following his junior season he earned all-state honors as well.

“We are elated Angel has decided to commit to Montana Western and the Bulldog Football Family,” said Coach Robertson.  “Being from Highland High School (Pocatello, Idaho) he has a history of success and playing in big games against tough competition.  He has the competitive spirit and play making ability we look for in a defensive back.”

Angel plans to study biology while attending Montana Western. He is the son of Darin and Janie Watt.
