The University of Montana Western women’s basketball team has placed eight players on the academic all-conference team for 2013-14. The women who have earned this honor are Sammi Bignell, Roxy Thurman, Jenna Banks, Kelsey Callaghan, McCall Hasquet, Taylor Kanthack, Kaci Matthies, and Baylie Smith.

Sammi-Bignell-200x250Sammi Bignell is a senior guard from Avon, Montana and a graduate of Helena Capital High School. Following the 2010-11 season she was selected as the Frontier Conference Freshman of the year. Sammi has been a two time selection to the all-conference team and was honorable mention All-American following the 2012-13 season.

Sammi has played in 115 career games as a Bulldog. During the 2012-13 season she scored 482 points which ranks her 8th all-time for points in a season, and is in the top ten all-time in season scoring average. Over her career she has scored more than 1681 points and grabbed 648 rebounds.

She will graduate in the fall of 2014 with a degree in elementary education.

Roxanne-Thurman-200x250Roxy Thurman is a senior guard from Bigfork, Montana and a graduate of Bigfork High School. She has played in 105 games over her career as a Bulldog. She is tied for fifth all-time when she recorded 6 steals in a game and accomplished that feat multiple times throughout her career. During the 2012-13 season she averaged 2.0 steals a game and ranks 6th all-time with 64 steals in a season. Roxy is tied for 6th all-time with 155 career steals. She scored 847 points and has grtabbed 440 rebounds as a Bulldog.

She will graduate in the spring of 2014 with a degree in business administration with an option in Health and Fitness Management.

 

 

Jenna-Banks-200x250Jenna Banks is a junior guard from Bozeman, Mont., and a graduate of Bozeman High School. She is a career 77% free-throw shooter in 88 career games. Jenna has averaged six points a game with a career high 19 points this season versus Montana Tech and averages two assists a game.

She is studying biology at Montana Western.

 

 

 

 

Kelsey-Callaghan-200x250Kelsey Callaghan is a junior guard from Port Orchard, Wash., and a graduate of South Kitsap High School.   She has competed in 84 career games as a Bulldog. Kelsey is averaging almost two assists a game and her highest point total is 14 as during her sophomore year.

She is an education major with a secondary education emphasis.

 

 

 

 

McCall-Hasquet-200x250McCall Hasquet is a sophomore guard from Missoula, Mont., and a graduate of Sentinel High School. During the 2013-14 campaign she scored 200 points and has a career high of 17 points. She is a career 81% free-throw shooter and making better than 33% of her attempts from behind the arc.

She is a secondary education major at UMW.

 

 

 

 

Taylor-Kanthack-200x250Taylor Kanthack is a junior forward from Helena, Mont., and a graduate of Helena High School. She shot 54% from the field this season. Taylor’s career high for points in a game is nine, which she recorded twice this season..

She is studying global politics at Montana Western.

 

 

 

 

Kaci-Matthies-200x250Kaci Matthies is a junior forward from Helena, Mont., and a graduate of Helena Capital High School. She has grabbed 413 rebounds during her career thus far. During the 2013-14 season she averaged 5.5 rebounds a game. She recorded two doubles-doubles this season versus Great Falls with the second in the first round of the Frontier Conference Tournament. She scored a career high 19 points versus this past season versus College of Idaho.

She is studying elementary education.

 

 

 

Baylie-Smith-200x250Baylie Smith is a junior forward from Jerome, Idaho who came to Montana Western via Umpqua Community College. She scored a career high ten points versus Tech this past season.

She is studying business administration at UMW.
