The Frontier Conference announced the 2013-14 academic all-conference team and the Montana Western men’s basketball team had five players who have earned these honors through their work in the classroom. The Bulldog honorees include Gabe Rucker, Maazin Butler, Tyler Miller, Jordan Overstreet, and Zach Smith.
Gabe Rucker is a senior guard from Bozeman, Montana and a graduate of Bozeman High School. He has been a member of three NAIA national tournament teams including the 2013 elite eight team. Gabe will go down as one of the winningest players in Montana Western basketball history.
He has played in 121 games in a Bulldog uniform. Gabe is a career 78 percent free throw shooter and has averaged nearly 2 assists a game over his career.
He will graduate in the spring of 2015 with a degree in biology and an integrative biology option.
Maazin Butler is a senior guard from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and a graduate of Fife High School in Tacoma, Washington. He was a honorable mention all-conference selection following the 2012-13 season. Maazin was a member of the 2013 NAIA Elite Eight team at the national tournament in Kansas City. He has played in 62 games for the Bulldogs and has scored 842 points in his two seasons at Montana Western. He averaged over 15 points a game this season and has recorded 17 or more points in 15 games.
He will graduate in the fall of 2014 with a degree in Business Administration and an option in Small Business Management.
Tyler Miller is a forward from Chandler, Arizona and a graduate of Basha High School. Tyler has been a part of three UMW national tournament teams, highlighted by the elite eight appearance in the 2012-13 season. During his Bulldog career he scored nearly 770 points, and has grabbed 390 rebounds. He scored a career high 23 points on February 16, 2013 versus Carroll College. He is a career 38 percent three-point shooter.
He has been an academic All-American for two years and has a 3.77 cumulative GPA. Tyler will graduate in the spring of 2014 with a degree in Business Administration with a digital media and design option.
Jordan Overstreet is a junior from Three Forks, Mont., and a graduate of Three Forks High School. Jordan has played in 80 games as a Bulldog and scored 799 points. During his sophomore and junior seasons he averaged over 12 points a game. He is a career 39% shooter from three-point range and has made 80% of his free throw attempts. He scored a career high 30 points during the 2012-13 season as part of the UMW elite eight team.
He is studying elementary education at Montana Western.
Zach Smith is a sophomore from Monroe, Wash., and a graduate of Archbishop Murphy High School. He has played in 45 career games for Montana Western. He is studying health and human performance while attending Montana Western.
