Bulldogs lose a close one to Carroll

UMW News Bureau

The Montana Western Bulldogs gave the unbeaten Carroll College Saints a real battle before falling 10-17 in a Frontier Conference football game from Helena. By Wally Feldt Montana Western traveled to Helena and almost spoiled the Carroll College homecoming, falling 10-17 to the unbeaten Saints. It was a true defensive battle in the first half as the Bulldogs held the powerful Carroll offense to only 62 yards and a single field goal. Both offenses overcame in the second half; Carroll scored with 40 seconds left in the third quarter, and the Bulldogs answered on a six-play scoring drive to tie the game at 10. Carroll took the lead on their next possession, but the Bulldogs pushed back into Carroll's red zone in the final minute of the game. The Saints ended the UMW threat with an interception in the end zone. Michah Mamiya threw for 228 yards including 131 yards to Craigh Cornelius on 12 catches. The Bulldogs host Rocky Mountain on Saturday for the 2009 Montana Western homecoming game.
