By Wally Feldt [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="235" caption="University of Montana Western Bulldogs women's varsity basketball coach, Cara Cocchiarella."][/caption] The University of Montana Western Bulldogs downed the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers 79-72 in women’s basketball Sunday afternoon in Dillon, Mont. The non-conference win was Cara Cocchiarella’s first as Montana Western's head coach. Montana Western led from the opening tip to the closing buzzer. Eastern cut the lead to three with 12 seconds remaining, but was forced to foul and the Bulldogs sealed their first victory from the free-throw line. Kristen Luedtke led Montana Western with 21 points followed by Nicole Tams with 15 and Jamie Lake with 12. Megan Crist led the Bulldogs with 11 rebounds. Ashlee Michelson scored 17 points for Eastern Oregon followed by Anne Barnett with 15. Michelson also led the Mountaineers in rebounding with six. The Bulldogs improved to 1-2 on the season while Eastern Oregon falls to 0-2. Montana Western will play at Montana State-Billings in an exhibition game on Friday, Nov. 6 and return to their home court Sunday, Nov. 8 to host Simpson University.
