By Wally Feldt [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="179" caption="Theresa Bennett"][/caption] University of Montana Western senior Teresa Bennett was selected as a member of the USA Athletes International team competing in the Bajan Goodwill Series May 31 through June 7, 2010 in Barbados. The USA team is composed of select athletes from across the nation and is coached by Bert Luallen of Seward County Community College, Anne Marie Larese of Dartmouth College, and Christiann Kelsey of Williams College. Players are recommended to the team based on their athletic ability and their ability to represent their country, school and hometown in a positive manner. “Theresa is an excellent example of the type of athletic ambassador USA Athletes International seeks to bring into international competition,” Rick Mathieu, volleyball program coordinator at USA Athletes International said. In addition to competing, the team will tour Barbados to learn about the history and culture of the island nation. “Theresa is taking the opportunity to represent Montana Western and Dillon, Mont. as an ambassador for the sport of volleyball and the USA,” Mathieu added. “She is definitely making the best of the opportunity, and we are all proud to have her as part of our program.” USA Athletes International is is a non-profit organization dedicated to giving amateur athletes and coaches the opportunity to participate in International Olympic-style sporting events throughout the world while also allowing them to broaden their educational and cultural knowledge of the world through the experience.
