By Kaitlin Ens The University of Montana Western rodeo team made a successful showing at the Dawson Community College Rodeo over Easter weekend in Glendive, Mont. with 27 top ten placings. The Montana Western men’s team won first with 1,125 points, an impressive 685 points more than the second place men’s team from Dawson Community College. Kody Lahaye took first in team roping partnered with Colter Garnder, first in tie down roping, fourth in steer wrestling, and winner of the Men’s All-around with a total of 430 points. Fellow Montana Western riders Tucker Zingg came in second for the Men’s All-around with 255 points. Troy Nahrgang earned 150 points for fifth place in the Men’s All-around, and Michael Waldhauser earned 40 points for seventh place in the Men’s All-around. The Montana Western women’s team came in third, trailing the first-place Dawson Community College women’s team by only 65 points and the second-place University of Montana Women’s team by only 45 points. Cassie Woosley earned KXLF athlete of the week for her previous firsts in breakaway roping at the Montana State University spring rodeo and the Helena Regional Rodeo. The men's and women's teams for Montana Western rodeo rank second in the Big Sky Region and have moved into contention for allotted places at the 2011 College National Finals in Casper, Wyo. The teams have also earned and additional 44 top 20 Big Sky Region rankings and six rankings on the national level. The final rodeo of the 2010-2011 academic school year will be hosted by The University of Montana in Missoula, Mont. on May 6 through 8, 2011.
