By Lowell Peterson Montana Western head men’s basketball coach Steve Keller announced the signing of Jake Owsley, a 6’8" post player from Bozeman, Mont. and North Idaho College (NIC), to a Frontier Conference/NAIA letter of intent. Owsley played last year at NIC, averaging 15.9 minutes per game in 30 games and helped the team finish the year with a 21-9 overall record. He averaged four points and 3.7 rebounds a game while shooting .456 from the field (57-125). Owsley also blocked 18 shots, the second highest total on the team. In his two years as a varsity player at Bozeman High Owsley averaged 12.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. He shot .480 (217-452) on his field goal attempts and blocked 102 shots (2.3 a game). Owsley was the Hawks' leading rebounder in both his junior (8.2) and senior (9.5) seasons. “We are extremely excited Jake decided to join our basketball program at Montana Western,” Keller said. “Jake has Division I talent and will bring much-needed size and athleticism to the Bulldog front court. He will be an impact player in our league on both ends of the floor.” Montana Western finished last season with a 22-10 record and made another strong showing at the NAIA national tournament. The Bulldogs return a talented core of veteran players (four starters) and red-shirts. In addition to the new recruits previously signed by Montana Western, Owsley will add another weapon to an already experienced and deep Bulldog team.
