Rocky Mountain defeates Montana Western volleyball

Rocky Mountain College displayed why they were ranked 12th in the latest National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) volleyball poll Friday night against the University of Montana Western Bulldogs By Lowell Peterson Rocky Mountain College displayed why they were ranked 12th in the latest National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) volleyball poll Friday night against the University of Montana Western Bulldogs. It took the Battlin’ Bears less than one hour of play to defeat Montana Western in three sets, 25-7, 25-6, 25-13. The Bears dominated the match at the net, getting 38 kills compared to just 16 for Montana Western. Defensively, the Bears also controlled the net, blocking 11 combined kill attempts to just one by the Bulldogs. Rocky Mountain outside hitter Sara Brunner recorded 11 kills, 11 digs and three service aces to lead the Bears. Kristen Barott led the Bears in assists with 30 and Jamie Elenbaas was the digs leader with 14. Emily Erickson led the Bulldogs in kills with six and Paige Latimer was the assist leader with 13. Shelby Mack and Bailey Branson led the Bulldogs with seven digs each. Branson had Montana Western’s lone service ace as well as the only block at the net. Rocky Mountain improved to 4-1 in conference play and 16-3 overall, while Montana Western fell to 0-5 and 5-11. The Bulldogs move on to play Carroll College in Helena, Mont. on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.
