UMW News Bureau

6871861046 a5203909bf oThe University of Montana Western Polynesian Club is hosting the sixth annual spring luau on Saturday, April 21, 2012 in the Keltz Arena on the UMW campus.

This year’s luau, “Ohana: From Our Family to Yours,” will feature an authentic Polynesian dinner, live music and dance performances.

The Polynesian Club is comprised of many south Pacific ethnicities, and the luau will feature authentic dance from the Cook Islands, Fiji, Hawaii, New Zealand, Samoa, Tahiti, and Tonga. Using the club as a connection to their culture, a source of family and a home away from home, members stay active in the community through many volunteer activities throughout the year.

The club was co-founded in 2006 by Mala Afoa, a native of Sala'emoa, Western Samoa. Afoa will be moving from Dillon, Mont. to Medford, Ore. this spring and Polynesian Club President Jordan Kamae said this year’s luau will honor Afoa’s contributions to both the Polynesian Club and the luau.

“Mala has impacted our club over the past six years through his selfless services and open-hearted care to our club,” Kamae said. “He is one the main assets of our club and will be sorely missed when he leaves to his new home in Oregon.”

The doors will open at 5:15 p.m. for the 6 p.m. dinner and they will re-open at 6:45 p.m. for the 7 p.m. show.

Dinner and show tickets are $30 for students and $40 for non-students. Table tickets for the dinner and show are $300 for a table of eight and $400 for a premier table of eight. Show tickets are $10 for students and $20 for non-students. To order tickets, call the Montana Western Foundation at (406) 683-7306.
