Montana governor to be Montana Western commencement speaker

University of Montana Western officials have announced that Montana Gov. Steve Bullock will serve as commencement speaker in ceremonies Saturday, May, 10, 2014.

The governor’s education policy advisor Shannon O’Brien informed the university yesterday.

Montana Western Chancellor Richard Storey said, “Our governor has demonstrated a deep and ongoing commitment to education at all levels in Montana. As the state’s premiere teacher training institution and with our unique approach to teaching and learning, we are particularly honored that he will join us.”

UMW is the only U.S. public four-year institution to employ Experience One where students take a single class at a time and then move on to the next. The university has been distinguished by the Carnegie Foundation with five professors of the year in as many years.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. in the Straugh Gymnasium on the UMW campus. This is the 117th commencement for the school which was founded in 1893.

This year’s proceedings will be Storey’s last as he has announced his retirement Aug. 2, 2014.
