By Wally Feldt Montana Western English instructor and award-winning poet Rebecca Knotts will be featured at the next installment of the University of Montana Western’s “Dances with Words” series. Knotts is scheduled to read Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. in The Cup, the university’s coffee shop located on the lower level of the Swysgood Technology Center. Knotts is a past winner of the Mary Robert Rinehart Poetry contest and the Virginia Downs Poetry contest. Knotts received a bachelor of arts from Boise State University and a master’s of fine arts from George Mason University. During her time at George Mason, she served as poetry editor of So to Speak: a Feminist Journal of Art and Language. While studying modern Irish at the University College Cork in Ireland, she completed her first collection of poems. Her poetry has also appeared in Alba, a Journal of Short Poetry and the Wicked Alice Poetry Journal. Knotts teaches literature and writing at Montana Western. Montana Western’s English department sponsors the Dances with Words series, which is funded by the university and local patrons and features visiting writers and poets. The fall series received additional support through a $1,000 “Opportunity Grant” from Humanities Montana.
