By Lowell Peterson The University of Montana Western Bulldogs equestrian team competed in two English shows and one western show in Logan, Utah on Saturday, Feb. 4 and Sunday, Feb. 5. The Utah State University IHSA Horse Show consisted of two English shows on Saturday and one western show on Sunday. The Bulldogs competed against teams from Utah State University, the University of Montana, Montana State University, Carroll College, Rocky Mountain College, and the College of Southern Idaho. The Montana Western equestrian team was back in action for the first time since Dec. 4, 2011 and had a strong showing in the first event of 2012. Saturday Morning English Show Kathleen Anderson placed third in walk trot and Aissa Wise took first in the advanced walk trot canter section 1 class. In advanced walk trot canter section 2, George Lawson placed first and Jordan Fuller placed fourth. Bryne Kilgore placed first in intermediate flat section 1 and Carissa Callison finished in sixth place. Caitilin Halliwell placed second in intermediate flat section 2. Amanda Gelderman was the first place finisher and Brianna Hatt-Liebsch placed third in open flat. Linda Sieverkropp placed first in intermediate fences and Halliwell placed second. Gelderman took first place in open fences and Hatt-Liebsch placed sixth. Montana Western won high point team and Gelderman won high point rider. Saturday Afternoon English Show Gelderman again won first place in open fences and Hatt-Liebsch placed sixth. Halliwell placed fourth in intermediate fences and Chelan Taylor placed second in novice fences section 1. In open flat, Gelderman placed third and Halliwell took fifth place in intermediate flat section 2. Callison placed third and Kilgore placed fifth in intermediate flat section 1. Lawson placed first in advanced walk trot canter section 2 while Fuller placed second. Wise placed third in section 1 of advanced walk trot canter and Anderson placed fifth in walk trot. Sunday Morning Western Show Jenny Winfield and Kilgore both finished in second place in open rail. Fuller placed third and Sieverkropp placed fourth in advanced horsemanship. Halliwell took third in novice section 2 and Lawson placed second in novice section 1. Jillian Archibald took home sixth place in intermediate II section 2 and Taylor placed third in intermediate II section 1. Winfield won reserve high point rider. The Montana Western equestrian team next heads to Billings and Rocky Mountain College for the Western Regionals on Feb. 18 and 19.
