Tyler Hurley scored the game’s first basket and the Bulldogs had an 8-7 lead at the 15:47 mark after another Hurley basket. The Eagles scored the next six points to forge ahead and built their lead to nine points twice in the first half. Cameron Gliddon led Concordia with 17 first-half points and Brandon Brown topped Montana Western with 20, making 12-14 free throws. Kyle Perry scored the last basket of the opening period and the Bulldogs went into the locker room down 40-45.
Montana Western went on a 10-2 run in the first two minutes of the second half to go on top 50-47 prompting a quick Concordia timeout. The Eagles responded with a 34-9 run of their own over the next 10 minutes to build a 22 point lead, 81-59, with 8:18 remaining. Montana Western fought back with a 24-8 run over the next five minutes to cut the Eagle lead to six points, 89-83, with 3:14 to play. During the run Hurley scored seven points, Brown scored six, Kyle Erickson scored five and Tyler Miller and Bridger Chambers each nailed a three point shot.
The Bulldogs were forced to foul the Eagles to conserve time on the clock and Concordia responded to make six free throws and score the next 11 points to push their lead back to 17 points. JC Isakson was fouled with 28 remaining and sank two free throws to account for the game’s final two points.
Five seniors played their final game for the Bulldogs. Brown made 13-16 free throws and finished with 30 points and five assists. Hurley scored 21 points and was a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line. Erickson scored 15 points and led the team in rebounds (seven), assists (six) and steals (three). Perry finished with two points and four rebounds and Chambers had three points and three rebounds. Miller, a junior, scored eight points and Owsley, a sophomore, finished with four points and six rebounds. As a team Montana Western shot .459 (28-61) from the field, .400 (6-15) on three pointers and .885 (23-26) from the free throw line.
Gliddon (7-10 on threes) led the Eagles with 30 points. DeLaun Frazier (5-7 on threes) added 19 points. Austin Simon finished with 14 and Dakota Downs recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Donnell Phifer was the assists leader with six. Concordia was .516 (33-64) from the field, .600 (15-25) from beyond the three point line and .826 (19-23) on free throws.
Montana Western ended their season with a 25-10 record. The Eagles (28-7) advance to their third quarterfinal in the last four years where they will play No. 12 LSU Shreveport (27-7) on Saturday at 4 p.m. CDT at Municipal Auditorium.
