The Character Advisory Committee and the National Office of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) recently selected the University of Montana Western as a 2011-2012 Five Star Champions of Character Institution.
The NAIA is made up of almost 300 member institutions divided into 25 conferences and are located throughout the United States and Canada. The Champions of Character program within the NAIA raises the bar on athletics, enhancing character development in young athletes and basing the true competitive spirit on five tenets: integrity, sportsmanship, responsibility, respect and servant leadership.
Student athletes, coaches, officials and spectators alike benefit from the positive game environment the NAIA Champions of Character program develops. Building community relationships by example is another innovative way the program can be implemented by member institutions who are recipients of the honor.
