The University of Montana Western men’s basketball team completed a sweep of the University of Calgary on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7 and 8.
On Friday, the Bulldogs shot 36 percent (29-80) from the field and 27 percent (9-33) on three-pointers as five players hit double-digits in the 86-67 win.
Vince Turk led the charge with 16 points followed by Gabe Rucker with 14, Kris Collins and Connor Woodill with 13 apiece and Jordan Overstreet with 12. Three of the players – Turk, Rucker and Woodill – achieved career-highs in the contest.
Rucker also hit a career-high with eight assists and added three steals. Tyler Miller pulled down seven rebounds and dished five assists.
Calgary was led by Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson with 20 points and four assists, Matt Letkeman with 10 points and Dallas Karch with seven points and seven rebounds.
Montana Western led 42-39 at halftime and outscored Calgary 44-28 in the second half. The Bulldogs had 40 points off the bench compared to just 22 for Calgary.
Saturday was more of the same story as Montana Western prevailed 78-71. Vince Turk and Jordan Overstreet put up 13 points apiece while Maazin Butler and Tyler Miller each had 11.
Overstreet, Gabe Rucker and Kris Castro had four assists apiece. Miller also contributed five rebounds and three steals.
The Bulldogs shot 51 percent (30-59) from the floor, 33 percent (5-15) behind the arc, and 71 percent (15-21) from the free throw line.
Calgary was led by Josh Owen-Thomas with 22 points and Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson with 10 points, six assists and six rebounds.
Montana Western will not return to action until Wednesday, Dec. 19 in an exhibition game at Montana State University-Billings. Tip-off will be at 7:30 p.m.
