Volleyball signs California transfer

Kendra a volleyball recruit from CaliforniaUniversity of Montana Western head coach Lisa Griffiths announced that Kendra Mendicino of San Diego, Calif. signed a Frontier Conference/NAIA Letter of Intent. Mendicino will transfer from San Diego Mesa College and will compete with the Bulldogs in the fall of 2013 with two years of eligibility.

"Kendra is an awesome addition to Montana Western volleyball,” Griffiths stated. “She is a proven winner and her experience and success at the junior college level has prepared her well for the transition to the Frontier Conference."

Mendicino, a 5’9” libero, was a four-year volleyball player for Patrick Henry High School in San Diego, Calif. She was honored as their best defensive player three times and was a first-team all-conference pick as a senior. Mendicino was also on the honor roll all four years.

At San Diego Mesa College, Mendicino was chosen as a first team member of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference as a freshman and sophomore. She was her team’s MVP both years as she led them to consecutive co-championship titles. While earning Scholar Athlete recognition last season, Mendicino led her team to an 18-5 record.

"Kendra has the ability to make an immediate positive influence on our team,” Griffiths added. “She has solid ball control skills and great court awareness to go along with competitiveness and passion for the game."

Mendicino plans to major in health and human performance at Montana Western and is the daughter of Kory and Marci Mendicino.

“I chose Montana Western because of how welcomed I felt along with the unique class scheduling and great volleyball program,” Mendicino said.
