The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the 2012-13 Division I Women's Basketball All-America teams on Wednesday, March 20. Players were selected by the NAIA Women's Basketball Coaches' Association All-America Committee with Montana Western’s women’s basketball player Sammi Bignell receiving recognition.
Along with four other Frontier Conference players, Bignell was selected by the committee as an honorable mention All-American for the 2012-13 season.
Bignell, a junior from Helena, Mont., led the Bulldogs this season by scoring 482 total points, which included a season-high 34-point performance against the University of Great Falls in January. Bignell also led the team in rebounding with 201 and grabbed 40 steals this season for the Bulldogs. She averaged 15.1 points per game in the 2012-13 season and currently is sitting at 1,246 total career points.
Joining Bignell on the list are fellow Frontier Conference players, Carroll College’s Torrie Cahill, Westminster’s Nicole Yazzie, and Cindy Tibbits. Yazzie was picked as a first team All-American while Tibbitts and Cahill were both selected for the third team All-American spots.
The University of Montana Western has launched a national search for the provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs position.
