Education student receives prestigious scholarship

UMW News Bureau

sierra bauerUniversity of Montana Western art education student Sierra Bauer recently received a Nolle Gaston Scholarship valued at $1,500. She was one of only ten students in the United States and the only student in Montana to receive the scholarship.

The Columbia Falls, Mont. native will be using the scholarship to attend a semester at a textile art school, Akademia Sztuk Pieknych, in Lodz, Poland.

In tandem with the scholarship, Bauer was also inducted in the Alpha Chi National College Honor Scholarship Society.

She says the honors boosted her confidence and reaffirmed her decision to attend Montana Western.

“I’m very happy I came here,” Bauer explains. “I love the small campus community feeling. Looking back at my freshman year until now, I’ve come such a long way. I’ve really grown here, and I don’t think I would have had that much of an opportunity if I would’ve gone to a larger university.”

Upon returning from Poland, Bauer plans to finish her degree at Montana Western and teach art at the K-12 level.

Only at Montana Western.
