The Black and White scrimmage will kickoff at 1 p.m. at Dillon's Vigilante Field, Saturday, April 20, 2009. By Wally Feldt Fortunately sunny and warm is the forecast for Saturday, April 18 as the University of Montana Western’s Black and White Scrimmage will kickoff at 1 p.m. at Dillon’s Vigilante Field. The Black and White scrimmage is the first of two scrimmages that will end the Bulldog spring season. The second is the Alumni game set for Saturday, April 25 in the same location. During the Black and White scrimmage, Montana Western players are split up and play against each other. At the Alumni game, current students will play with alumni. “This is a fun and competitive game with the excitement of a regular season game. A friendly rivalry develops between the teams that adds just a little bit more,” head coach Rich Ferris said. “The game is a great opportunity for our staff to evaluate talent and determine depth.  One position in particular is defensive end which lost both starters to graduation.” The Black and White scrimmage will be played with complete game-like conditions. The coaches divided the team with a draft. There will be officials, a game clock and live special teams play. The only thing that won’t happen is hitting of the quarterback. “Despite the weather, we have had a great spring,” Ferris said. “I am pleased with our progress so far. Last year, we were implementing new offensive and defensive schemes. Both the coaches and players were learning.  This spring, were able to concentrate more on execution instead of learning.” The scrimmage is free and open to the campus and community.
