The Bulldogs host Lewis-Clark State on Friday, Sept. 11 and the Westminster College Griffins on Saturday, Sept. 12. By Wally Feldt The University of Montana Western Bulldogs open Frontier Conference play with a pair of volleyball matches on Friday, Sept. 11 and Saturday, Sept. 12. Both matches begin at 7 p.m. in UMW’s Straugh Gymnasium. On Friday the Bulldogs host the Lewis-Clark State Warriors of Lewiston, Idaho. The Warriors are 5-4 overall after a four-match swing through California last weekend. Lewis-Clark faced four NAIA top-10 teams with victories over No. 4 Azusa Pacific and No. 10 Vanguard. The Warriors enter the weekend ranked No. 13. Katie Hinrichs leads the Frontier in digs with 4.6 digs per set while teammate Jenika Bird leads the league in blocks with 1.2 blocks per set. On Saturday, Montana Western will host the Westminster College Griffins of Salt Lake City, Utah. Westminster is 3-9 overall going into the first weekend of conference matches. Last season, the Griffins won both regular season matches over Montana Western. Freshman Ashley Marchant leads the Griffins in kills with 3.17 per set. Montana Western is 4-5 overall this season after going 1-4 at the Mount Mary/Dakota Wesleyan tournament. Theresa Bennett leads the Bulldogs in kills with 2.6 per set and digs with three digs per set.
