Montana Western equestrian competes in regionals

The University of Montana Western Equestrian Team competed in Western Regionals and three regular season Western shows on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 19 and 20. UMW NEWS BUREAU The University of Montana Western Equestrian Team competed in Western Regionals and three regular season Western shows on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 19 and 20. The show was hosted in Billings, Mont by Rocky Mountain College. Teams from Carroll College, The University of Montana, The College of Southern Idaho, Utah State University, Montana State University, and Rocky Mountain College also competed.

    In Beginning Walk Trot, George Lawson took first and Angelika Barrett placed sixth. Sam Essig placed fourth in Intermediate I. In Intermediate II Section 2, Kalani Sheelar took second and Amber Stine placed third. Jordan Fuller took first in Novice Section 1. Carissa Callison placed fourth in Novice Section 2. Tesla McDowell placed third in Advanced. In Open, Amanda Gelderman and Jenny Winfield placed fourth and sixth, respectively. In Reining, Brenda Cole took second and Kristin Bredl placed third. The Montana Western equestrian team won Reserve Champion High Point Team. Saturday Afternoon Show
In Reining, Gelderman took second and Winfield placed fifth. Gelderman placed sixth in Open. Linda Sieverkropp took second in Advanced. Callison took second in Novice Section 2. In Novice Section 1, Fuller and Brenna Dwyer placed third and fifth, respectively. Sarah Tiffany placed sixth in Intermediate II Section 3. In Intermediate II Section 2, Sheelar took second. Essig placed sixth in Intermediate I. In Beginning Walk Trot, Lawson took first and Barrett placed fourth. Lawson qualified for Regionals in Beginning Walk Trot. Sunday Morning Show
    In Beginning Walk Trot, Barrett placed sixth. In Intermediate I, Lawson took first and Caiti Masters placed sixth. In Intermediate II Section 2, Sheelar took first and Stine placed third. Tiffany took first in Intermediate II Section 3. Fuller placed fourth in Novice Section 1. In Novice Section 2, Callison and Dwyer placed third and fourth, respectively. Sieverkropp placed fifth in Advanced. In Open, Winfield took second. In Reining, Winfield took first, Bredl placed third, Amanda Gelderman placed fourth, and Brenda Cole placed sixth. Montana Western won Champion High Point Team. Dwyer qualified for Regionals in Novice. Regional Show
In Reining, Winfield won Reserve and qualified for Semi-Finals while Gelderman placed fourth. In Open, Winfield won Champion and qualified for Semi-Finals. In Advanced, Cole and Bredl placed third and fifth, respectively. In Novice, Sieverkropp won Champion and qualified for Semi-Finals and McDowell placed fourth. In Intermediate, Callison placed fifth. In Beginning Walk Trot, Lawson won Reserve Champion and qualified for Semi-Finals. Essig placed fifth in Beginning Walk Trot. Montana Western was third in the region overall. The Montana Western equestrian team’s next show will feature three English shows and the English Regionals on Saturday and Sunday, March 5 and 6. All shows will be held in Dillon, Mont. at J & S Sporthorses. Spectators are welcome and admission is free. The Western Semi-Finals will be held in Finley, Ohio on March 26 and 27.
