By Lowell Peterson University of Montana Western head men’s basketball coach Steve Keller announced the signing of Dane Stiles, a 6’2” shooting guard from Malta, Mont. to a Frontier Conference/NAIA letter of intent. “We are excited that Dane has chosen Montana Western to continue his basketball career,” Keller said. “Dane has good size for a two guard and is a very good three-point shooter with great range. We look forward to Dane developing into a very good player in the Frontier Conference.” During his senior year at Malta High, Stiles averaged 17.5 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals per game. He shot 53 percent on his field goal attempts and 71 percent on his free throw attempts. Stiles was honored as an All-State selection in basketball for the last two years and was an All-Conference selection for three years. An excellent all-around athlete, Stiles also competed in golf, football and track and field. He was an All-Conference selection in football and was the 2011 State Class B javelin throw champion with a throw of 174’5.” Stiles is the son of Del and KayDel Stiles and plans to major in elementary education or health and human performance at Montana Western.
