  • These rankings are very important, but look a bit deeper to really understand what a deal UMW is during these times of increasing higher education costs. Carroll College has annual tuition and fees of $27,14, Rocky Mountain College is 23,718 and Montana Western is 5,564 (in state) and 14,983 (out of state). Really, you get that much more at Carroll for 5 times the cost? Montana Western is the only public university in the U.S. offering block scheduling. It's not a gimmick and it's not easy. It does provide large, uninterrupted blocks of time for experiential learning. Time to go into the field in Environmental Sciences and work on real projects with federal agencies protecting endangered species. I wonder if you get to do that for nearly 5 times the cost at Rocky Mountain College? Why are we not ranked higher? Well, because there formulas don't account for these realities. the fact that we are as highly ranked as we are and they don't even account for the block system says volumes about our real value. All I can say is spread the word…
