UMW News BureauUMW's Sexual Assault Awareness program is organizing an event to raise awareness about domestic violence. The University of Montana Western Sexual Assault Awareness program invites the men of your business, club, or organization to polish up your high heels and “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.” The event consists of men walking a mile in high-heeled shoes in a public place while supporters cheer them on. The target date for this event in Dillon is March 18 and the event will take place on Atlantic street between UMW and Beaverhead High School. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” is a nationwide event that draws male attention to standards that often victimize women. The premise of the event is that men literally walk a mile in women’s high-heeled shoes. Information on this nationwide initiative can be found at www.walkamileinhershoes.org. Students and staff have been working tirelessly this year to convey the message that sexual assault is preventable. Now these students and staff members are asking that UMW men take a stand and participate in the nation wide event “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.” This initiative is a fun opportunity for men to educate the community and to take action to prevent sexualized violence. Montana Western Sexual Assault Awareness initiate along with help form the Community Support Center, will be donating free t-shirt to participants of the walk. They will also be ordering shoes for participants.
