A dance mixer is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 10 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Lewis and Clark Room. Instructor Donna Morrison will demonstrate dances that will be taught later in the semester. There is a fee of $6 for singles or $10 per couple and there will be hors d’oeuvres and door prizes. “Altered Books and Scrapbooks” is set for Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 16 through Feb. 25 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in Block Hall, Room 114A. This is a fun and creative class that will teach participants how to transform old books and multimedia scrapbooking materials into unique and individualized creations. Class instructor is Danni Straugh. There is a $45 class fee that covers a variety of materials. Students are asked to bring old books and other scrapbooking materials. Preregistration is required. Montana Western student body president Tyler ‘Chicky’ Wines is the featured speaker for the semester’s first Free Speaker presentation Thursday, Feb. 18 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Room 108 of the Swysgood Technology Center (STC). Wines will share his experience of volunteering at the Mnazi Mmoja hospital in Zanzibar and the hospital’s efforts to ensure a more highly functional hospital. A waltz dance class is set for Fridays, Feb. 19 and 26 from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. in the Montana Western P.E. Complex upstairs gymnasium. Instructor Donna Morrison will lead participants through the basics of the waltz. A partner is recommended but not required. There is a class fee of $20 per person or $35 per couple. “Successful Aging for Baby Boomers” is a series of Tuesday evening classes featuring topics to aid individuals entering their later years. The classes begin Mar. 2 and continue through Mar. 23 in Room 108 of the STC. There is a class fee of $5 per class or all four classes for $15. A jitterbug dance class is set for Fridays, March 5 and 12 from to 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. in the Montana Western P.E. Complex upstairs gymnasium. Instructor Donna Morrison will lead participants through the basic dancing steps and techniques of jitterbug. A partner is recommended but not required. There is a class fee of $20 per person or $35 per couple. Preregistration is required. A digital photography class is scheduled for Wednesdays, March 17 through April 28 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in STC, Room 105. The class will help novice and hobby photographers hone their own artistic vision while becoming more technically skilled in turning their vision into good photographs. Class instructor is David Nolt and there is a $65 class fee. A digital camera with manual functions is required. Preregistration is required. A cha-cha dance class is set for Friday, March 19 from to 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. in the Montana Western P.E. Complex upstairs gymnasium. Instructor Donna Morrison will lead participants through the basic dancing steps of the cha-cha. A partner is recommended but not required. There is a class fee of $10 per person or $15 per couple. Preregistration is required. Instructor Joe Brandon will teach a bicycle maintenance course Tuesdays, March 23 through April 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Alternative Bike and Board in downtown Dillon. Class topics include a range of subjects guaranteed to help keep a bike in good working condition. A student manual is required as is preregistration. There is a $65 class fee. A GRE (graduation record examination) workshop is scheduled for Thursday, April 29 from 6 to 10 p.m. in Room 2002 of the Montana Western Lucy Carson Library. Mark Krank will prepare students for the GRE general test, providing tips, strategies and targeted plans. There is an $18 fee and preregistration is required. Get off the tee the right way with a golf class taught by Montana Western golf coach and PGA professional Mike Crosser. Learn the basics or improve your game. Taught at the Beaverhead Gold Course, the class takes place on the driving range, the putting green and on the course. There is a $25 class fee and preregistration is required. “Drawing for Dummies” is scheduled for Thursdays, May 6 through June 3 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Room 114A of Block Hall. The class is designed for beginners and covers the foundations of drawing. Class instructor is Kelly Woodring. The class is open for ages 14 and up. There is a $45 class fee and preregistration is required.
