Career Week at Montana Western

The University of Montana Western Career Services is sponsoring Career Week from Feb. 22 to 25 on the Montana Western campus. The week’s events will include free workshops and presentations with local entrepreneurs and professionals. Career Services director Sarah Juran said the event is part of the university’s ongoing mission of experiential learning and fully preparing students for the world beyond the Montana Western campus. “We’re trying to provide as much assistance to our students as possible,” Juran explained. “In this economic climate, everything you can do to differentiate yourself and present yourself in a professional manner is crucial in finding a job. We have a great group of speakers to provide students with personalized, real-world advice on pursuing a career in their fields.” All workshops and presentations are free. On Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 5:30 p.m. in the Lewis and Clark Room, the Montana Western Foundation and Student Senate will sponsor an etiquette dinner where students can brush up on their table manners and conversation skills. Here is a breakdown of the week's events: Monday, Feb. 22 10:15 to 11:15 a.m.: Montana Western librarian Anne Kish will help students navigate career resources. STC 105. 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Montana Candleworks owner and freelance graphic designer Brain Johnson will present on starting a small business. STC Great Room. 2:15 to 3:15 p.m.: Beaverhead County Chamber of Commerce Director Melissa Hannah will present on the role of chambers in community economies. STC Great Room. Tuesday, Feb. 23 9 to 10 a.m.: The UMW Business Club will facilitate a resume and cover letter workshop. STC Great Room. 10:15 to 11:15 a.m.: Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks fisheries biologist Jim Magee will present on his experience as the grayling specialist for the lower 48 states. STC Great Room. 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Emily Guiberson will present on working for the Bureau of Land Management. STC Great Room. 2:15 to 3:15 p.m.: The Dillon Workforce Center’s Mica Slaven-Lamoth will present “Job Search 101.” STC Great Room. 5:30 p.m.: Etiquette dinner. STC Great Room.
