Baleigh Doyle, Montana Western student and Miss Dillon USA 2018, is working with NASA again this summer.
This year, she is creating an instruction manual for her statistical MATLAB software programs. She started constructing these programs last summer during her first internship to analyze participant feedback data more efficiently from the in-house technical training program for workers at NASA. “After completing the manual, future interns or employees will be able to effectively use these programs,” said Doyle.
Experience One, the unique one-course-at-a-time program at Montana Western, has had a major influence in her success at NASA. “I am able to work in a team-like environment while producing a product or project in a short period of time. I work closely with my professors due to small class sizes which mirrors the professional relationship I have with my team here at NASA,” said Doyle.
Doyle was previously interviewed about her second upcoming internship at NASA, along with fellow student and recent Montana Western graduate Marcus Payne. Both students are participating in summer internships at the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Maryland.
A few weeks ago, Doyle built a model rocket and launched it at the visitor’s center. “I wore my Miss Dillon USA sash for the first time at the rocket launch,” Doyle said.
The rocket club at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center has a rocket launch for the public the first Sunday of every month. Students are encouraged to bring rockets they have built and have the unique opportunity to launch them with NASA personnel.
Pioneer Federal Savings and Loan and Doyle’s family and friends will be sponsoring and providing support during her journey to Miss Montana USA® 2018 this September.
“I hope to bring awareness to careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and will make more appearances around Dillon once I return from my internship,” said Doyle.
According to the event’s website, “contestants will be participating in various seminars, self-esteem enhancing discussions, photo shoots, and rehearsals, and learn more about scholarship opportunities.”
The program also supports many charities and organizations at the state level by providing opportunities for contestants and state delegates to help raise awareness and/or funds for numerous charitable organizations such as the Race for the Cure (increasing awareness of early detection), DARE (to keep kids off drugs), Best Buddies (dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships), Girl Talk (mentoring program for middle school girls), Sparrow Clubs (helping kids in medical crisis) and many others.
