The University of Montana Western will host a variety of upcoming events featuring outstanding performances and shows by Montana Western students and guest artists, including two shows brought to the community by the Dillon Concert Association and the Southwest Montana Arts Council.
“Watershed” by Jason Clark: Montana Western Fine Arts Gallery Show Opening
The University of Montana Western’s Fine Arts Gallery is pleased to announce a new show, “Watershed,” featuring Missoula-based printmaker Jason Clark.
The show will be open from Monday, October 8 to Friday, November 2, during gallery hours Monday-Friday from 1-3 p.m.
Clark’s work explores contemporary cultural issues, environmental issues, indigenous mythology and postcolonial identity through bold line-work, vivid color, and evocative forms.
There will be an artist’s lecture on Thursday, November 1, at 5 p.m. in Main Hall room 319 followed by a reception in the Fine Arts Gallery at 6 p.m.
The opening will also feature additions to the permanent collection including works by Monte Dolack, Edward Curtis and Salvador Dali.

“Stage and Screen” Flute and Piano Duo Presented by the Dillon Concert Association
The Dillon Concert Association will present Stage and Screen, a spectacular flute and piano duo, at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 11, in the Beier Auditorium on the Montana Western campus.
The duo will perform highlights from contemporary movies and musical scores, Broadway, opera, and rock and pop hits from some of the most well-known musicians of our time.
The performance is supported by season sponsors John and Elizabeth Garry along with show sponsors Ruby Harvey and Eric Hammer and Sandra McIntyre.
Membership in the Dillon Concert Association grants admission into all of the 2018-19 DCA performances. Single event tickets will be available at the door (adults $15, college students $10, and student/youth $6).

Montana Western Students Present the 16th Annual Ten-Minute Play Festival
The University of Montana Western’s Theatre students are pleased to announce the 16th Annual Ten-Minute Play Festival to be held October 11, 12, 13 and 15, as part of the Bank of Commerce Performing Arts Series. The performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. each night and will be held in the Small Auditorium (room 314) in Main Hall on the University of Montana Western campus.
Over 30 students will perform as cast, crew and directors for the 14 plays presented. This year’s theme is “Walls,” and students throughout campus have been challenged to write and submit a ten-minute play to be performed for the festival. Every nights’ program is different, since four or five plays will be presented each night. Audience members can attend the entire festival for the price of one ticket.
At the end of the first three nights’ performances, the audience will vote for their two favorite shows, with the winners performing again for the final night of performance. The overall winners will be chosen on the final night by the audience.
The directors all come from the Play Production course taught on the campus this semester block by adjunct professor Larry Brazill. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors at the door; Montana Western students are admitted free of charge. Some of the plays contain mature themes and are not recommended for children.

Cirque Zuma Zuma Presented by the Southwest Montana Arts Council
“Americaʹs Got Talent” finalist Cirque Zuma Zuma comes to Dillon, Mont. on Sunday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the Beier Auditorium on the Montana Western campus. Known as the “ultimate African circus,” this show is filled with non-stop action and African culture, including dance, acrobatics, tumbling, and music and is presented by the Southwest Montana Arts Council.
Cirque Zuma Zuma features disciplined performers who are trained in Kenya and Tanzania. Many describe it as an African‐style Cirque du Soleil; such is the standard of the performers and the quality of the show.
Cirque Zuma Zuma combines the mysticism of Africa with the excitement of a theatrical cirque performance. With live music and percussionists, the talented cast performs an action‐packed show of pole and aerial acts, Egyptian limbo dances, South African gumboot dances, Gabonese tumbling, and South African contortionist feats which will keep the audience breathless.
