Montana Western student receives national award.

November 30, 2015

Piazzola traveled to Washington D.C. with Peers Advocating Towards Health (PATH) to attend the Boosting Alcohol Consciousness Concerning the Health of University Students (BACCHUS) general assembly. On the last day of the conference Piazzolla was presented with the 2015 BACCHUS Initiatives Outstanding Student award by BACCHUS president Kevin Kruger.

“It was a surprise and an honor to be nominated for the award,” said Piazolla. “The opportunities provided by Montana Western have allowed me to participate in a variety of self-improvement activities like PATH. I couldn’t imagine attending another university.”

Piazzola was nominated by Montana Western’s health and wellness director and PATH advisor Lexi Benson after he participated in Celebration on the Hill, an event held in Helena, Mont., aimed at educating the legislature on health issues. Piazzola was introduced to State Senator Debby Barrett and Governor Steve Bullock to discuss the importance of funding for tobacco prevention in Montana.

“Brandon is very involved with health and wellness activities around campus and consistently brings great ideas to our peer education organization,” Benson said. “I was pleased to nominate him for his efforts around advocating for students making healthy decisions.”

Piazzola is currently a junior at Montana Western pursuing an elementary education degree in physical education.
