Mock is the co-director of the KCC, a non-profit organization working with Nepalese climbers and high-altitude workers. Their goal is to increase responsible climbing practices within Nepals economically vital tourism and guiding industry. Classes are offered in the winter when the tourism season is at a low and last either eight or ten days.
Mock will spend his time in Phortse with other instructors to teach Sherpas about the many aspects of guiding in the high-altitude environment of Mt. Everest. Mock teaches climbing basics as well as more advanced climbing skills.
The education provided at the KCC can provide Sherpas financial stability as guides on Mt. Everest, one of the most sought after high-altitude climbs in the world.
Founded in 2003, the KCC mission is to increase the safety margin of Nepali climbers and high altitude workers by encouraging responsible climbing practices in a supportive and community-based program.
