Earn Your Elementary Education Degree Fully Online with UMW’s Project REAL

October 18, 2024

The University of Montana Western is excited to offer a path for paraprofessionals, emergency hires, and place-based Montana students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, fully online, through UMW’s Project REAL (Rural Experience, Authentic Learning).

Project REAL is a program designed to give career opportunities to school employees in underserved rural communities by providing an accessible way to become licensed educators. The program brings UMW’s Elementary Education curriculum directly to students, ensuring they have access to high-quality education without needing to relocate or commute to campus.

One of Project REAL’s key components is its focus on real-world application. Through in-school lab hours, students can integrate what they learn in coursework with hands-on experience in their school settings. This blend of practical skills and academic knowledge prepares students to thrive in educational environments. Participants will also receive coaching and support from experienced educators, ensuring they have the guidance needed to succeed both in their studies and in their teaching careers.

Project REAL is intended for individuals already working in schools, such as paraprofessionals, who are looking for an opportunity to advance their careers. By applying what they learn in a familiar educational setting, students can actively engage and enhance their skills while pursuing their degrees.

Montana Western is currently accepting applications for Spring 2025. Visit https://apply.umwestern.edu/apply/ to apply for Project REAL today.
