The University of Montana Western has scheduled two special community events to celebrate Montana Western’s 125th Founders Day.
The events are hosted by Montana Western Alumni and Friends and the University of Montana Western Foundation.
“We have so much to celebrate,” said Chancellor Beth Weatherby. “One hundred and twenty-five years of teaching teachers, one hundred and twenty-five years of innovation in order to serve the needs of our state and our community, and one hundred and twenty-five years of creating opportunities for students to achieve their goals and dreams.”
A 125th Founders Day Celebration and Bank of Commerce Performing Arts Social will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 5:30 pm in the Main Hall first floor foyer for the community and audience of the play “Proof” to enjoy refreshments, hors d’oeuvres and conversation before the show begins that night at 7:30 pm.
For information and performance times for the Bank of Commerce Performing Arts Series award-winning productions of “Proof” and “Doubt,” held February 22-26, 2018, presented by the UMW Fine Arts Department, please visit the online events calendar.
On Friday, February 23, 2018 at 11:30 am, a Founders Day Time Capsule Celebration will be held in the Main Hall first floor foyer. The celebration will also include a display of historical photographs and memorabilia showcasing the University’s history. The University will add items pertaining to the present day to a time capsule that will be buried in Legacy Plaza and opened on Montana Western’s 150th anniversary.
As part of her “letter to the future,” which will be read at the time capsule celebration ceremony and enclosed in the capsule, Chancellor Weatherby included a promising prediction.
“My crystal ball tells me that twenty-five years from now, the University of Montana Western will be well-known throughout the world as the brilliant Montana gem that helped transform higher education in the United States of America,” said Weatherby.
Guests in attendance will have their picture taken in front of Main Hall and have the opportunity to sign the scroll that will be placed in the capsule. Cake and beverages will be served after the ceremony.
The Social and Time Capsule Celebration events are free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Vanessa Graham by email at [email protected], or call 406-683-7303.
