The University of Montana Western's Bulldog Athletic Department was recently notified that they were recognized as a Five-Star Character Institution by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
This is the highest rating possible through the Champions of Character program and is a reflection of the outstanding work that all of Montana Western’s coaches perform with their teams in the core values of the program.
According to the NAIA, the Champions of Character program is “designed to instill an understanding of character values in sport and provide practical tools for student-athletes, coaches, and athletic administrators to use in modeling exemplary character traits.” The five core values of the program are integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership.
Russ Richardson, University of Montana Western Director of Athletics, said “I am thrilled by this recognition as it is a direct reflection of our commitment to the holistic development of the Bulldog student-athletes.”
Montana Western Athletics’ Programs include Football, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Volleyball, Cross Country, Track, Rodeo and Cheer. The Frontier Conference, with Montana Western as one of the charter members, also received the Five-Star Character recognition.
