The UMW Mathematics Department invites any interested high school juniors or seniors to participate and compete (for FREE) in UMW’s second annual mathematical modeling competition called BrainFest that will take place on Friday, February 16th, 10 AM – 3 PM.
For BrainFest, the contestants will work in small teams led by UMW’s own math majors to model pterosaur hunting behaviors. A team of Montana Western’s Mathematics professors will be present to pose questions and to offer guidance throughout the process. Lunch will also be provided free of charge.
BrainFest will provide the participants an opportunity to dive into an immersive, hands-on, problem-solving, mathematical experience – which is just a taste of what we do every block here in the math department at Montana Western. The competition will conclude with presentations, and the competitor(s) with the most effective model(s) will receive a $500 scholarship to Montana Western.
