The use of tobacco (including cigarettes, cigars, e-cigarettes, pipes, bidi, hookah, snus, orbs, vape, vapor, vaporizer pens and all forms of smokeless tobacco) by students, faculty, staff, guests, visitors, and contractors is prohibited on all properties owned by The University of Montana Western.
The use of non-motorized bicycles, skateboards, scooters, and in-line skates shall be allowed as a means of transportation on sidewalks, walkways, and roadways of The University of Montana Western. The use, possession or storage of battery operated self –balancing boards (Hover Boards, Segways, IO’s, Hawks, and similar equipment) is prohibited in college owned buildings or on college property.
The University of Montana Western regulates the presence of animals on its campus.
The University of Montana Western provides mail services for all of its departments, faculty and staff as needed to conduct daily University business.
Consumption of alcoholic beverages on property belonging to the Montana University System is prohibited except as expressly permitted (Board of Regents Policy 503.1).
The University of Montana Western is committed to providing a drug-free campus.
The University of Montana Western allows campus and community advertising within certain guidelines.
The University of Montana Western recognizes that its students retain the rights provided by the United States and Montana Constitutions, Federal and State statutes, and other applicable University policy, while attending UMW. The provisions of UMW Policy 101.1 Student Conduct Code are intended to be consistent with these rights, and to limit or restrict only conduct that goes beyond the responsible exercise of these rights recognized by law.
The University of Montana Western Student Conduct Code sets forth standards of acceptable student conduct, disciplinary sanctions for breach of the standards of student conduct, and procedures to be followed in adjudicating charges of both academic and non – academic misconduct.
As circumstances warrant, the University prepares and distributes – either selectively or throughout the campus – printed crime alerts. The Dean of Students decides to issue a special alert with advice from the Chancellor and/or the Provost and the Vice Chancellor for Administration, Finance & Student Affairs.
The University of Montana Western adheres to the regulations outlined in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 as Amended (FERPA), which grants students certain rights, privileges, and protections relative to individually identifiable educational records that are maintained by UMW.
