The University of Montana Western adheres to the regulations outlined in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 as Amended (FERPA), which grants students certain rights, privileges, and protections relative to individually identifiable educational records that are maintained by UMW.
The purpose of this policy is to comply with FERPA regulations regarding release of student educational records to third parties, student’s right to inspect/review their own individual educational records, student’s right to challenge information contained in individually identifiable educational records, and student’s right to withhold public directory information (with some specific exceptions to release of directory information).
The FERPA regulations are available at the Registrar’s Office. Excerpts of this policy are published in the UMW Website and the Schedule of Classes.
