The University of Montana Western will follow all applicable state and federal policies with regard to providing textbook information to students.
The purpose of this policy is to ensure compliance with the Textbook Provision in the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) of 1965, Reauthorization in 2008. Compliance with the HEOA is required to ensure continued federal financial aid funding.
Per the HEOA, the University of Montana Western will provide ISBN of all course textbooks to be posted and/or made available to students on the institution’s internet course schedule used for registration purposes. The University of Montana Western has established 30 days prior to registration based on a semester system for these ISBN’s to be posted on the bookstore website.
The Campus Bookstore will provide year-round electronic access to the textbook adoption form to all departments and faculty to be completed per the following deadlines:
Blocks 1-4 are considered “Fall Adoptions”, Blocks 5-8 are considered “Spring Adoptions” and Blocks A-C are considered “Summer Adoptions”.
Fall and Summer Adoption forms are to be completed and returned to the Campus Bookstore by March 15. A reminder to complete the form will be sent to departments the first week of March.
Spring Adoption forms are to be completed and returned to the Campus Bookstore by October 15. A reminder to complete the form will be sent to departments the first week of October.
All adoptions forms must be completed with the minimum of: Author, Title and ISBN. All adoptions must be in writing and be received by their specific due date.
Every scheduled class within the department must have textbook adoption forms returned by the semester due date.
