The University of Montana Western grants fee waivers for in-state incidental fees for regular University courses to employees who meet certain qualifications.
The purpose of this policy is to allow qualified University employees to receive in-state incidental fee assistance for regular University classes in which they are enrolled.
Generally, employees who work at least three-quarters time (.75 FTE) qualify for a waiver of in-state incidental fees. Faculty whose assignment is .75 or greater will qualify in their second consecutive semester of employment. Classified staff members must have completed their probationary employment period. The .75 FTE level must be maintained during the entire period of enrollment for which a fee waiver has been granted.
Employees are limited to a waiver of no more than seven semester hours of credit for any semester of the academic year or the summer session, if employed during the summer session. Employees are limited to only one block course per semester during regular working hours.
When an employee wishes to take a course that is offered only during regularly scheduled work hours, the employee must obtain supervisory and Dean/Director’s approval. An employee must take annual leave or approved leave without pay for all hours absent from the regular work schedule or, through a pre-approved plan, make up the time missed by the end of that semester.
The Faculty and Staff Fee Waiver Application form, available from the Financial Aid Office, must be completed and signed by the employee, the appropriate supervisor, and the Dean/Director. Verification of an employee’s status will be provided by the Human Resources Office at the beginning of each academic semester.
Employees who terminate during the academic semester in which they received a waiver will be required to reimburse the University for the value of the waiver. Such reimbursement may be withheld from the employee’s final paycheck.
This policy applies to regular UMW courses only.
